Onitsuka Tiger is a Japanese sneaker brand with stores across Asia and Europe, and despite the popularity of their sneakers in North America, they are yet to open a location here. I thought about what it would be like for the brand to have their first North American store, and had the idea that their first North American location would be ideal for Detroit, because of Detroit’s historical ties to Japan, and the growing fashion scene, and the idea of collaborating with with fellow streetwear designer, Carhartt WIP. I wanted to create something cool and contemporary for the sneaker brand, while incorporating Carhartt’s construction wear roots into the collaboration, to create a unique storefront window display, and exclusive merchandise for the collaboration.
